Another smooth installation over at Z One.  2 New LG 50in Plasmas hung for the outdoor terrace.  Be sure to stop by to check them out!  We stopped by a friends shop to check out a security camera problem he was having since the original installation, boy what a mess.  Security cameras are not something you can slap together with some bubble gum and tape.  Hopefully he can get the original installer to come back and do the right thing…otherwise it looks like we will have to go in and clean the mess up.

Top 5 Reasons Why Bargain Displays Are Not a Good Investment

Traditionally high quality displays from upper tier manufacturers have proven to be excellent technology investments, giving users many years of excellent service.  Recently, a glut of “bargain” displays have been entering the mass retail market, big box houses and price clubs, that may not really qualify as investments at all.  Here’s why:

Repair Issues
High quality displays can be repaired at any time by qualified service people.  Many bargain displays have no network of service centers or parts distribution.  Therefore, many of these displays cannot be repaired after their warranty period expires.  Since many bargain displays cannot be repaired – they are by necessity “disposable”.

Technology
Top tier manufacturers spend millions on R&D assuring that you get the very latest innovations in technology.  Bargain brands use existing technologies which may be a year or more behind.

Picture Quality
Better brands use more expensive video processors, high contrast glass and other high quality components that assure optimum picture quality.  Bargain brands generally use the lowest cost components available.

Connectivity
High quality brands offer lots of inputs and control options like RS-232 control and VGA inputs.  Bargain brands include fewer of these necessary inputs.

Reliability
Quality displays typically have a 4% or lower failure rate.  Conversely, bargain brands can have failure rates as high as 20%.

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding why you should invest a bit more in a brand name.  It is more likely that you will spend more money in the long run repairing or replacing that bargain tv.  If picture quality and reliability is what you are looking for go with a brand name.
